Chances are, in this day in age, you have a facebook account. For those of you who are addicted to facebook and wanting to change the world, I would suggest joining Facebook Causes (www.facebook.com/causes). FB Causes is a wonderful application that is centered around helping whatever causes you're passionate about...whether animal/ human rights, UNICEF, or clean water in Africa...by loading/ sending pictures and videos, creating and signing petitions, inviting friends (thus, creating awareness), and raising money (either by fundraising or donating yourself) for your cause. While some think of FB Causes as just another form of "slactivism", I've found that it's a terrific platform for recruiting followers to your cause, if nothing else.
Another thing that makes this application fun, is the social interaction between different people from all over the globe, binding together to fight for a cause. You are able to send pics, give props, comment, add videos, keep up with your friends (it keeps a chart of who's done the most actions out of you and your friends for the following categories: fundraising, recruiting, awareness, advocacy, and karma), and even create your own causes. ONE WARNING: because anyone is able to create a "cause", and because you can donate to these "causes", I would be weary of donating (or fundraising among your friends) to unprofessional-looking "companies" or organizations. I would stick with a verified non-profit organization. You can tell by pressing on any cause that you're interested in...after that, click on the 'about' tab...the third section down will read 'Donations go to..."...and below that it should read: A 501 (c)(3) nonprofit. That's how you know if it's legit.
